Gems, stones and minerals were a part long-established standard modality of Chinese Medicine. Several different Chinese Materia Medica textbooks (herbal encyclopedias) included gems, stones and minerals. All aspects of the natural world, such as gems, soil, dew-drops collected in the mornings from certain mountains, plants and animals were included in the Chinese Materia Medica because all parts of the natural were considered to be alive and to have intrinsic healing properties.
We will discuss the basics of how one might analyze the potential healing properties of gems, stones and minerals and potential pathophysiological mechanisms of action.
